Think About the Higher Education in Taiwan

In the recent years, the amount of the universities in Taiwan increase obviously. According the statistics from the Ministry of Education, if we only calculate the traditional universities, there are totally 95 schools. While in the 1960-1970s, in the time when our parents were students, there are only about forty schools. And because of the economical problem, just a little part of children can go to the universities to acquire the higher learning. It’s really amazing that in such a short period of time, there can be such a great development in the higher education in Taiwan.

Because more and more universities established, the acquirement of in society will become stricter and stricter, too. In the past, if a student attends a university, though it might be the economical ability of the student’s family is not bad, it’s undoubted means the student is excellent, because in that time, attending to a university successfully is surely more difficult than now.

Since it’s so common that a lot of students can attend in to universities nowadays, it’s surely not enough if we only have the education background for university. The educational background of university had become the essential and the most basic one. Instead, the quality of the schools we study in, or the other abilities we also have are more important.

How to Improve English Writing Ability

How to have a great English writing ability? In my opinion, there are main three steps.

First step, we need to learn some basic concepts about the structure of an article. For example, in the beginning of a paragraph, we have to write a topic sentence to show the main theme of this paragraph, and then there should be some sentences relating to the topic to give readers our supporting ideas, and finally, we also need to write a concluding sentence to retell our aspect in this article. It’s undoubted that this step is really important because before we learn the other more advanced skills like how to express our idea well or how to polish our works, we surely should be familiar with the organization of what we want to write first. And the second step is reading more. All the different kind of material is good. For instance, magazines, newspaper, or novels are all great materials. By reading a lot, we can not only lean many good ideas but also increase a lot of knowledge which is really useful for our writing. Besides, sometimes we can also learn some good writing skills that we may probably make use in the future from the authors’ good work. And the last one step but not the least is always making efforts to practice. There was an old but a great saying “practice makes perfect!” It’s really true. Practice is always the most important way to learn anything well. To cultivate a good English writing ability isn’t the exception. So if we can spend some time to practice every day, and then gradually we indeed can have some advance in it.

Having a good English writing ability is absolutely not an easy way, but if we can follow the above-mentioned ways, and keep working hard to practice, we will definitely make progress and even enjoy in it someday.

The Summary of the Song "I Dream a Dream"

Summary:
This song is one of the theme song in the opera─"Les Miserable".
It's about a woman's soliloquy. She presented the happy memory she had ever had in the past, and expressed her sorrow, her depression, and her helplessness sincerely after the misery happened.

Situation: A world was so wonderful in the beginning. The people then had the happy life everyday.

Conflict: But some miserable things happened and broke their sweet dream.

Struggle: The people prayed sincerely that the God could listen to their voices and come to help them.

Outcome: Though the people hope it can recover like before, the world had been all changed. The dream they had ever dreamed was deeply killed.

Meaning: It’s really an inconsolable song that describes a changing process of one’s feeling from the happiest to the most sorrowful.

The Summary of the book "Jonathan Livingston Seagull"

The story of "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" is about a seagull which is really different

from the other. He wanted to break the normal rules and reach some achievement to fulfill his real dream─flying free.

Situation:
Near one seashore live a big flock of seagulls. They always do the same thing - searching the food. The thing that all of the seagulls care is just how to make themselves full. But except one seagull, Jonathan, his true dream isn't like that. He wants to fly free and try to reach some achievement.

Conflict:
Though Jonathan tried hard to express his thought with other seagulls, he still failed. The flock still couldn't accept him. So therefore he was exiled.

Struggle: After being exiled, Jonathan flew into another world. In that world, most of the seagulls knew their dream well─ they all have the strong desire to fly. So Jonathan decided to learn from them. Trough thousands of times practice, Jonathan finally became a real excellent seagull. But in the same time, a sound appear in Jonathan's mind. If he should go home or still as same as now─keeping staying here?
Outcome:
Jonathan made his mind to go back and became the most respectable teacher among the flock. To cultivate more excellent younger seagulls.

Meaning:
Never giving up our dream easily! If we always insist it and keep making efforts, someday we do can reach some achievement and make the people who belittle us at first feel shame.
